Add a patent ↗Automatically optimize performance of package execution
US7904894B2 · Microsoft Corp · Source: google-patentsVarious technologies and techniques are disclosed that automatically optimize package execution performance. A profiling phase executes each task in a control flow package and measures performance metrics, such as task execution length, task memory usage, task correlation to CPU versus input/output operations, network bandwidth, and running applications. An optimization phase optimizes subsequent executions of the package by using the performance metrics to make appropriate adjustments to the package. The profiling phase and optimizing phase are repeated over a period of time as appropriate to improve the package's performance without requiring a user to make adjustments to the tasks in the package.

Erik Meijer, Henricus Johannes Maria Meijer, Avner Y. Aharoni, David Schach · 4 inventors totalInteraction with nested and non-nested streams
US7661096B2 · Microsoft Corporation · Source: google-patentsThe subject invention pertains to systems and methods for iterating over or otherwise traversing a collection of objects or elements. More specifically, mechanisms are provided for handling both conventional non-nested streams such as enumeratables as well as nested streams. Nested streams provide a more efficient mechanism for traversing certain objects such as recursive generators. One problem with nested streams is that they need to be flattened or simplified. Techniques are provided herein to allow such streams to be flattened quickly and efficiently. Moreover, systems and methods are disclosed to preserve backward compatibility of optimized nested stream processing with conventional non-nested streams.
Erik Meijer, Henricus Johannes Maria Meijer, David Schach, Avner Y. Aharoni, Wolfram Schulte · 5 inventors totalMonitor for an information technology system
US7660702B2 · International Business Machines Corp · Source: google-patentsThe present invention provides a means of monitoring the progress of an IT implementation of a process or activity through a defined set of situation types and event objects corresponding to said situation types whereby, if the IT implementation of the process or activity is changed, provided the event objects corresponding to the defined situation types are still generated by the new IT implementation or are able to be derived from the new IT implementation through mapping and/or the instrumentation of new events, the monitor is able to receive or retrieve said event objects and thus perform its monitoring function. This has the advantage of de-coupling the monitor from the specific IT implementation of the process or activity and thus allows a generic monitoring solution to be provided.
