my name is Nicola Kossoff and I work for ING Bank out of Amsterdam the Netherlands and my role is a software engineer in a squat we call squats teams well I'll start again my name is Nicola Kossoff and I work at ING Bank out of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and I'm a software engineer key engineering issues that come up in my work they're mainly about reasoning about the complexity of our applications so we always think about how can we build applications that's lost longer but not afraid to change them and you know to be able to comfortably reason about them for the long term the ing we're building systems that are supposed to last issues with scalability have come in the past mainly about the mobile application use so we see that more and more of our customers are using the mobile application of energy and we noticed that we can learn from the u-verse in the Netflix and the Twitter's of this world of how to build scalable applications that are enabled for 24/7 use I think in the future issues with scalability might be scaling and in with that respect automatic scaling of our the way we handle the load to the handle the way we handle customer requests so how can we build applications in such a way that they're elastically scalable so that's something that we're looking into right now [Music] well I've discovered functional programming in 2008 2009 when I started working with air lung it's a programming language and framework out of Ericsson and since then I've been working with Scala I'm also building some side projects at home with with elm so I believe that when you discover functional programming eBay it makes you a better programmer in general so even if you explore the functional side of Scala and apply them with Java I think you can still build composable more modular applications even if you're using an imperative object-oriented language well I think that it's in the in the middle of Silicon Valley so it's in the heart of where all technology is being developed so I work for ng in Amsterdam we always look into those interesting companies that's develop all those cutting-edge technologies here in Silicon Valley so being part of the conference talking about the technologies we develop at Angie I couldn't be happier to be here you
