[Music] I'm David cleaver I'm a principal software engineer at Comcast I think scale usually is a big one we do a lot of distributed systems and scale work so handling lots of requests and being able to support spikes and requests our team does a lot of projects that involve self-service and so sometimes teams on board and suddenly you have a lot more requests than you had the day before and so handling that's very important I've definitely seen even just people roll out new code that suddenly makes more calls than it made before and systems aren't ready to handle that and they fall over and crash or they seize up and things like that I've seen engineers make things not scalable enough they don't account for the number of requests they're actually going to get and and so things lock up and jam up that way too and bad stuff happens when that happens [Music] I think we're only gonna grow in requests and and our team we keep building infrastructure things and as we do that like we're just gonna get more and more clients and more and more requests so it's gonna be a lot of the same problems it's for 8 years now it's been a lot of the same problems over and over again functional programming has made my code cleaner I think and it's given me it excites me because there's a lot of stuff around types and and building programs from functional programming that it's it's a little bit more fun than imperative to a large degree but I'm also building safer easier to use code and so it's it's both fun and functional you know useful so I [Music] really enjoy talking to the people like coming here is a great opportunity to learn what others are doing and meet with folks in the community you
