I'm a programmer and a writer and a lot of what I focused in my uh in my work has been how we design abstractions and how we design the concepts that correspond to those abstractions for the systems that we're building this has been something that was very important to the work that I did previously as a principal scientist at Target and it's still important that the work that I'm doing today at CX score now I've always found it difficult to articulate exactly what this design means and the kind of tools that I use to improve it so I'm very excited about the talk that I'm giving this year because I finally been able to explain my school of thinking about programming and design in a way that is more specific and concrete than it has been before and in particular I've also figured out how to explain what draws me towards typed functional languages like Haskell and why I see types and again especially expressive type systems as tools not just for correctness but more importantly tools for both designing abstractions and even tools for exploring and designing concepts for the systems that I'm building
