Recording: Scale By the Bay 2023: Interview with Ryan Orendorff.
hi my name is Ryan um I'm a research engineer at a startup called Sunscreen where we build fully homomorphic encryption compilers so a lot of the work that we do is based on cryptography so that's kind of the focus of the startup however we are working on some technologies that allow you to perform private ml inference and private ml trading so for example what you could do is have a model up in the cloud and then have a user provide data to perform inference on but have that data be encrypted and never decrypted by the server so the user can be sure that their data is actually never leaked by the person who's doing the processing of their data yeah so a lot of the projects we're working on are trying to essentially um expand our portfolio of cryptography uh operations specifically we're working on something called taus fhe which allows us to perform comparisons and stuff like that so a lot of the stuff we're working on is essentially the tooling that you would use to make private applications including private ml applications um and then we'll focus a little bit more on some of the application components later so I always love this conference um one of the talks I'm looking forward to is by Ivan Perez so he's talking about um some of the stuff that he's worked on in terms of Aerospace um another one of the people here that I really always get excited to see is salar so he's giving a talk on some Nicks related topics so I'm really excited to see his later in the day I would say that scale by the bay is like a fantastic venue with amazing speakers every year I come I'm always kind of Blown Away by both the kind of different topics ranging from things that I'm like familiar with to things that I've never seen before so really get a kind of eye opening experience really just kind of such a diverse and like thought-provoking set of topics it's really kind of an exciting time and also it's in a great location um it's really nice to kind of close to Lake Meritt and kind of look over the the lake there and stuff like that so
