Scale By The Bay 2019: Win Wang Interview
Recording: Scale By The Bay 2019: Win Wang Interview
[Music] my name is win Wang I work for Twitter and I'm a software engineer on the language tools team so we provide support and tooling for the various languages working that we work on at Twitter [Music] this is my first time speaking a scale by the way in fact my first time speaking at a conference how would I hear about you guys is I attended one of your conferences because Twitter hosted it last year [Music] my favorite part of my talk is when I tell people that it's actually productionize and they can go ahead and try and use it so Twitter is one of the largest scholarships in the world and that means our compiled times and our build times are slow and how do we get fast kemal times while using outlining you can paralyze your build graph as much as you want and thus you can if you have larger machines if you have remote execution then you can scale as much as you want I really enjoyed Olaf's talk on metals Olaf actually also works on my team so that may kind of seem strange but Scala IDE experience can always be improved and as an as a coder I want to have a very fast ID experience with tons of features and not have to worry about of random freezes crashes etc so I think evolving the Scala IDE is very important and that was an amazing talk to listen to so I've talked a lot about distributed compiles this is mostly for clean compiles however the idea experience is also something that every Scala developer will hit on and what I'm looking forward to in the next year is being able to accelerate that idea experience whether with outline technology or otherwise my favorite part about scale by dabei is the emphasis on scale so it's not just Scala but how do we deal with a world where code bases are growing where data is growing and where the number of engineer's are growing I think this is an extremely powerful topic to hit on and I'm glad that scale by the way can be flexible and introduce many important ideas [Music] you
