Recording: Scale By The Bay 2019: Paul Cleary Interview
[Music] my name is Paul Cleary I am a senior principal software engineer working for Comcast [Music] this is my actually my second time speaking at scale by the bay I spoke first in 2017 and so just working with the scale community at large you know there's a lot of people that I know that come to this conference so it's a good opportunity to get everybody together and meet with people that I usually don't get to meet with on a regular basis in person [Music] so the neat thing about my talk is that we talk about the evolution and growth of a system but also there's a personal a personal aspect of my talk that's the evolution and growth personally as a programmer so being able to interweave those two messages together I think will be kind of interesting well it's an interesting question because the Comcast we already have really big scaling problems so we had it's more or less I think that my work is helping our company meet the demands and scale that we already have as opposed to growling as a business so that's interesting I do have talks um that I wanted to see there is there's the one talk so I know Rob so there is talk Rob and Alex are talking I know both of them are talking on Dubey and quill today she's always going to be interesting I'd actually did want to see I I saw Bryant Cantrell talk and he's always an amazing speaker so I like watching Bryan and the unfortunately Adelbert stalk is at the same time is do be so I don't know if I can get in there and you know half-and-half or something like that but I always enjoy seeing out of what I had a work talk as well yeah so I think that the it's gonna be there's a couple things that are happening at least with pertaining to what I do and and one of them is the evolution of Scala and Doddy and seeing if you know when that's released and how we can adapt the way that the program to the new features that are coming with body and another thing that we're doing a lot of within next year is we're focused on rust more for performance and being able to do things you know at line speed better quicker faster I see what you did yeah so my favorite part of the scale about a base of people you know I everybody's really nice I can talk to anybody we're just having conversations waiting to come into this room that a lot of new people I don't know if I have anything that would be a recommendation on how to improve I don't think give it some thought you know I think that like I said you know everything that I've experienced here at least a few times I've been here has been great [Music]
