[Music] I'm James Ward I'm a developer advocate at Google Cloud [Music] I've been to scale by the bay three or four times and and spoken each of those times I don't think I was here last year but was here the two years ago is the most recent time and was I talking about their machine learning or something like that for the topic but and then how did I hear about it Aleksey I know Lexi from long ago and so so I probably saw it from him on on Twitter or something like that but also love being part of the scala community so I'm sure I see it through that as well we we talked about by functor IO which is he's snarky way to say what we talked about and so it was fun like making fun of a nerdy sounding title but then actually talking about what what it actually is and why it matters and how it pairs well with serverless so so yeah that was that was fun kind of diving into what that means and how it applies I really am bummed that I missed Heather's Keena this morning it sounds amazing I can't wait to watch the recording later because Heather is amazing and always has super insightful mind-blowing things to say and so that was one I was most looking forward to seeing but fortunately I had a conflict I don't get to see it but I'll watch it online so and I don't remember the title of it but Heather [Music] yeah so I have been exploring this idea that we did talked about in our talk of combining environmental effects or by funky Rio with with serverless and the opportunity for for a surrealist platform to essentially provide an environment to a environmental effect based program and so be able to essentially swap the environment automatically when you're in a different environment and and do that in a server less way so so that's that's what our talk explored and that's something that I hope to continue exploring over the next year and see see where this could go ultimately what would be interesting is can I just ship my environmental effect definitions to a platform and have it wrap those effects with the required environment for that thing and so I've got some more work to do to take that idea a little bit further and so that's what I'm looking forward to most during the next year [Music] my favorite part of scale by the bay is the hallway track just there's so many amazing people that are so much smarter than me and I can learn so much from that I get to just like meet in the hallway and have an amazing conversation with and learn from and and so I love that part but then the talks are also amazing so it's always like a hard thing like how do I choose the hallway track or going to a talk but because the talks are recorded it's nice because I don't always have to choose I can always choose to watch a talk later and so that's super nice to have have the opportunity to essentially get both the how I track and the talks just the talks later [Music]
