hi my name is Micah I'm a software engineer at lyft working on our stream processing systems I live right here in San Francisco so it lifts we're building a stream processing platform for the company to process data in real time be able to react to real-time data I think the the most exciting thing we're building is a system that allows anyone and a research scientist service engineer anyone to take advantage of real time data and to do real-time processing without being a distributed systems expert or a data processing expert personally I really like programming languages and advances in programming software developments I think that the programming track personally is most interesting to me we're going to talk about how you can leverage stream processing systems to take advantage of real-time data and build reliable highly performant real-time data pipelines I'm really excited to hear how other companies are solving similar problems it's a lot of companies that have a lot of data and need to react very quickly to it I think there's a lot of innovation happening around there and excited to see how people are solving those problems yeah well actually Scala was my like introduction to real industry applicable functional program mean before that I'd done some Haskell and Oh camel but skull was the first chance I had to actually use functional concepts in production along with things like akka and finagle Twitter really excited to be able to see that you can apply these low-level we've got a functional program language concepts to the large scale programming that I've kind of done throughout my career so far I've been really excited by all the talks I've heard as well as a bunch of great I just kind of hallway conversations I feel I've already learned a lot of interesting stuff and decided to just see what's what's there for the rest of conference
