you I'm Julie pit and I'm co-founder of order of magnitude labs yeah it was actually kind of a long game I first heard about Scala on a podcast by dick wall and some others it was called java posse roundup and so at some point dick wall discovered skull and he started talking about how amazing it was so I was very much in the java space and you know i was fascinated by scala and some of the problems that solved that i saw with java development so this was back in 2008 but my career took a different turn and i continued to work in Java for a few years so finally in 2012 I got connected back with Scala and applied it at a couple of startups and have never looked back so that's an interesting question because the type of work I'm doing is very exploratory and so it's less about choosing a stack that will take us into production and more about equipping us with the right tools that will allow us to test hypotheses about what we're doing so you know I'm very excited about ammonite it's a great tool it has a ripple and it has some Scala scripting capabilities so we use that to do quick testing without a lot of overhead because that's really kind of what we're optimizing for in terms of other other technologies I've used recently that I'm really excited about but not using right at the moment is Scala Jas I had previously used JavaScript and I'm not a front-end developer so I found it a lot easier to write robust applications using Scala Jas [Music] I'm looking actually looking forward to how elys talk he's actually coming up next and he's going to be talking about Scala scripting and because that's very relevant to what I'm doing I'm interested to hear what he has to say [Music]
