you my name is jacobs i'm one of the founders of a company called confluent it's a group of people who build the technology Apache Kafka and we're kind of a company working on that yeah I got involved in Scala pretty early on maybe this was a 20 tenish something like that we were basically looking for a better Java in we worked at LinkedIn at that time and LinkedIn was pretty much built in Java and so it was helpful to have something that was compatible but we wanted something that was a little bit more functional would be a little bit more convenient modern to program in and that was how we came into it and so actually a patchy Kafka was the first project we did in Scala that I was involved well I guess we're actually making a sack as a company so I guess um you know we're creating a product around Kafka called confluent platform it's like an open source distribution that has all these pieces you can use with Kafka so I guess for this kind of stream processing area I guess that's my ideal stack since that's what we're working um well you know I was I was only here for just today so haha so I'm looking forward to the rest of the day but I wasn't able to attend the other two days so I'm looking forward to whatever idea you
