petyr baelish I'm assistant professor at Stanford University you went out on the way up here I realized you know it's pretty cool I study databases I think it's really cool there's a hole in a week long event about data and I think it's kind of a reflection on how how important data is today and I think the problems were facing only get more more exciting so it's like the golden era of data I think we're at a stage where we have more data being collected than ever before and the data has exist the thing is I only started at work so I mean data has always existed it had have been collected and now that we're collecting we start to answer questions we hadn't thought of before and one of the problems that we're really thinking a lot about today is you know there's almost more data now than you can even pay attention to and so how do you prioritize and think about that I mean the upside is huge and the technical problems are huge it was just a really interesting confluence of things that matter and things that are incredibly fun and exciting to think about and work on the datas cheap human attention is is is not going to grow okay and so if we can build systems that help humans prioritize their attention it'll make data even more valuable you I think doing things that excite you and cultivating that excitement and curiosity and then following through right so it's excitement plus consistency and believing in yourself if you don't believe in yourself no one else well
