my name is Jill Desmond I work for a versa me and I am their senior data scientist I just love being surrounded by data scientists who are as passionate as and what they do as I am it's fun to both talk to them and sort of hear what enter some and built my work and then to hear it interesting about their work just because it sort of drives the world right now I mean data is everywhere from you know what you buy at the grocery store to what you're surfing online I think that there's so much we can do with it and so if we just learn how to harness it oh I guess I wanted to sort of see a lot of my talk talked about what our first drives were then our struggles and going back to the drawing board and sort of this iterative process of getting to a point of data collection where we're happy with our results so I guess I wanted people to see that that's okay that you know you're not going to get it right on the first time and that accurately labeled data is so important so you really want to stop back up and you know go through the iteration as painful as it might be so that you end up with very good labels because without the labels you're not going to be able to have an algorithm that can learn from them so I guess you have to find something that you love because there's probably going to be data involved with whatever is so for me I ended up in data science I don't know if I want to say accidentally but almost accidentally I was really interested in cochlear implants I actually started by using machine learning to detect and mitigate reverberation for cochlear implants so it was data science but it was sort of biomedical and it hit a lot of my interests and now I use data science to encourage parents interact more with their children so it's all using data science but it's doing so on something that I'm passionate about and you're not going to follow through when you're not going to be great at something unless it really is something you're passionate about
