my name is Gregor Stewart companies basis technology corporation and the VP of Product Management I think the quality the speaker's just been very high it's very rare that i'm at a conference where I get to hear so much low level detail on technical detail and I feel like it's tutorial right a lot of the conference's I speak at very high level and you know I don't really learn very much I'm very glad to have been here I think that one of the things that's really exciting me in the moment is the algorithms that you can run on the date tonight they're just so much more powerful than they were even you know five years ago and it's bringing problems into the realm of solubility but I didn't think I would see you know in a decade let's say right crazy things like self-driving cars right you thought that was going to happen right and it's almost a reality I guess that the problems that people are actually trying to tackle are still way beyond the technical means that we have in many cases it was something that you can easily say to someone I want to find people who might want to leave the company and take data with them or whatever right or steal things from mastering that's actually be so easy to say and so very hard to detect right and sentiment analysis and various bits that you've got you know are very small parts of a larger solution which is hard to conceive of and to execute well so I think that's the key insight it's real interesting problems are a lot harder than the individual bits so someone says work tyvek and you're like great how does that solve a problem right so obviously competence and the core disciplines which math statistics it Sakura but I think the thing that makes the difference between and okay competent data scientist and a great deal scientist is imagination right is an ability to see data as something else right so some data about you know census data and to see in it a representation of something that's quite different right I know a lot of people think that the math is the most important thing but among the mathematicians I know the thing they most often say is this ability to see something as something else or as a solution you know like oh maybe maybe that's an answer right like very few people I've met in data science can do that plenty people can crunch very few people can imagine their way out
