my name is eric olson I work for stitch fix I am the chief algorithms officer now it's always great to talk about what you do we I the team adds districts does such fascinating things and it's great with our stories out there it just seems to be endless possibility things that we never fathomed were possible data now are and it's such a creative field to see what people are coming up with ya the main insight is that there is still very much rules for humans embedded within algorithms that we we have to certain things that only humans can do that our machine learning deep learning is never going to be quite good enough to say foster relationship with a customer you need humans for that and so combining the abilities of machines and humans can produce new capabilities if you're going to go into data science I think the key requirement is you have to have passion you have to love this stuff yes it's a lucrative field the salaries are getting high it's hard to find great people but don't go into it for that reason going because you can't stand not to be going because you love it otherwise you're going to fail you won't become a great one that you have to be driven by your own passion
