System and method for the serving of extended bit depth high resolution images

A system and method for the serving and display of extended bit depth (EBD) high resolution images on a web browser using multimedia platform code or code for a graphics framework. Image data such as x-ray or MRI sets is mapped into channels of a color image the browser can handle, and a client-side color transform reproduces the exact values of the original EBD image under the user's VOI settings.
