Abstract:

What makes Scala particularly suitable to implement machine learning techniques?
The presentation introduces some of the features of Scala critical in building scientific and data mining applications:

  1. Implementation of mathematical abstractions (monadic kernels..)
  2. Dynamic instantiation of data transformations and workflows (dependency injection)
  3. Scalable execution (streaming, data flow control)

Note: Knowledge machine learning is not a pre-requisite to understand the concepts in the presentation

Bio:

Patrick Nicolas is a lead R&D engineer at Dell (Santa Clara). He has 25+ years experience in software engineering, building large scale applications using C++, Java and Scala. His interests include real-time data analytics, modeling and information geometry.
